Our Journey: The History of KNC Care
Our Journey
KNC Begins
KNC was started by a small group of volunteers in May 1979 - as a little kiosk in St Ives Shopping Village for residents to stop by and get information on local schools, and community services. At this time it was known as the St Ives Community Information and Service Centre.
KNC Becomes a Registered Charity
By 1985 KNC had expanded beyond an information service and established several new groups to assist residents, including Neighbour Aid Services offering transport, shopping help and companionship visits. In 1985 the name was changed to Ku-ring-gai Neighbourhood Centre.
KNC is Officially Funded as an Aged Care Organisation
KNC began to be funded under the HACC (Home And Community Care) program to provide assistance to older people living at home.
KNC Celebrates 21 Years of Helping
KNC marked 21 years as a community service with an inaugural Christmas party attended by clients, volunteers and staff.
KNC Merges with Pennant Hills and Galston Neighbour Aid
KNC joined forces with Pennant Hills Neighbour Aid and later in the year Galston Neighbour Aid to continue to provide support to older people living at home across Northern Sydney.
Response to Global Pandemic
KNC co-ordinated deliveries of food, covid tests, sanitising equipment, gloves and masks to keep older people safe at home during the pandemic.
The Beginning of the PACE Program
KNC partnered with The Sydney North Health Network (SNHN) to create an early intervention program for older people over the age of 55. PACE focuses on providing support for individuals who have just been diagnosed with a chronic illness. KNC and SNHN has helped hundreds of clients each year navigate their symptoms and link them with support.
